Squint Surgery
Our Expertise
Squint surgery, also known as strabismus surgery, can help improve the alignment of misaligned eyes.
The surgeon detaches part of the muscle connected to the eye and moves it into a new position so that the eyes point in the same direction.
The muscles are fixed in their new position with dissolvable stitches – these are hidden behind the eye so you will not be able to see them afterwards.
During the procedure, the eye is held open using an instrument called a lid speculum. Sometimes it may be necessary to operate on both eyes to get the alignment right.
01. Sucess Rate
According to Moorfields Eye Hospital, about 90% of patients experience some improvement after surgery. However, the amount of correction needed for one patient may be too much or too little for another with the same size squint.
02. Safety
In general, squint surgery is most effective when performed before the age of six. Squint conditions worsen with age, and surgery performed before age six has better visual results and longer-term stability.
